[Review] Tithe by Chani Lynn Feener 3/5

The first chapters were slow moving until Chapter 12, where all the action suddenly became fast-paced and revelation after revelation came. I was drawn to this book and I could not put it down. However, I felt like the last few chapters were a bit anti-climactic and confusing, at times.

Arden Archer could have been a great female lead but I felt like she’s always a damsel in distress. Yes, she is brave, not afraid to stand up to anyone, even to the Unseelie, but there is something lacking. In the whole story, she has been nothing but a manipulated human, too oblivious of everything no matter how bold she seemed to be.

Also, I was not comfortable of the fact that everyone, aside from Eskel, was pretty much okay with the possibility of Arden and Cole going to the underworld after being successful in the Tithe. Even when Arden and Cole have been prepared for the challenge, nothing changes the fact that it’s still the underworld and I felt like this matter was taken too lightly for my taste.

If there was one thing that I really liked in this book, it’s the love triangle. It was well-written and not forced. Although I have been for Eskel from the very beginning, there were scenes where Mavek grew on me.

This book is brimming with potential, but there are a lot things that need improvement.

P.S.
I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
